Web hosting companies allow you to host your websites on the internet. They provide users with space on their web servers (computers) which are connected directly to the internet via a datacenter.
What do I need?
To build your website, all you need is a computer with internet conenctivity. Most hosts will supply you with a method of either building a site through them, or importing one you made to their servers. There are many wonderful guides around the internet that will help you get to know the world of web hosting.
How much does it cost?
Web hosting prices can range from free to thousands of dollars. It really depends on what you are lookig for. I would almost never suggest using a free hosting service, though there are a few reputable ones. The majority of users will do just fine starting out on a shared hosting plan, costing $5 per month or less.
How do I start?
You would start by signing up for an account with a reputable web host. A quick Google search will take you to several. Among my personal recommendations are HostGator, BlueHost and Site5. You can also look for a host on forums like Web Hosting Talk for some great deals with both new and established web hosting providers.
